We are Specialized In Orthodontics.
When we think about orthodontics, unsightly metal braces are the first thing to come to mind. However, orthodontics is more than just braces. Orthodontists are concerned with the position of the teeth, what has caused them to arrive at their current position, and what future movement may be needed so that your bite is fully functional.
We may have some orthodontic options available to straighten your teeth, ranging from conventional braces (with wires and brackets) to invisible braces (clear orthodontic aligners). Each method ranges in price and treatment length and will vary by patient. Ask us about which treatment is right for you.
Orthodontics / Braces
Orthodontics is the branch of dentistry which deals with the correction of mal aligned teeth. The orthodontist can help straighten teeth that are not in aesthetic and functional harmony and cannot be corrected by using only smile designing procedure. This is done with the help of braces.
What is Orthodontic Treatment?
Orthodontic treatment is the use of brackets which are attached to your tooth surface; these brackets in turn hold metal wires in slight tension. These wires apply gentle pressure over the mal aligned teeth causing them to move into physiologic harmony. These movements of the teeth can be brought about in a span of months.
Why you may need orthodontics?
The position of your teeth and jaws has an effect on your bite. Your bite is how your upper and lower teeth come together. When your upper and lower teeth do not fit together properly, this is called a malocclusion or a bad bite. Problems like missing, crooked, crowded or protruding teeth can contribute to a bad bite. Thumb or finger sucking may also affect your bite.
Malocclusion can make it hard to chew food and may cause some teeth to wear down. It can also cause muscle tension and pain. Teeth that protrude out are more easily chipped or broken. Crowded and crooked teeth are harder to clean and may be more likely to get cavities and gum disease. Fixing a bad bite improves your smile and your overall health.
What are the types of braces available?
Braces are available in two basic variants: Metal and Ceramic (Tooth coloured). Metal braces have a slightly unsightly appearance in the mouth. With the advancement in dental material science newer ceramic braces are placed nowadays. These braces though visible in the mouth, help avoid the unsightly appearance of metal.
How long does Orthodontic treatment last?
Orthodontic treatment is a slow process. Depending upon age and the amount of correction required the treatment can 12 Months on an average. Treatment in younger patients is completed faster than in older patients. During the treatment period it is mandatory for you to see your dentist at least on a monthly basis or when the dentist deems necessary.
What is Lingual orthodontics?
Lingual orthodontics is a newer area in the field of orthodontics. If a patient needing orthodontic treatment is majorly concerned about his/her appearance with conventional braces, they can opt for lingual braces or invisible braces. These braces are placed on the inner side of the tooth. Neither the wire nor the clips / brackets associated with the braces are thus, visible.
What are Clear Aligners and Invisalign?
These consist of extremely thin transparent VINYL trays each for the upper and lower jaw. This technique requires an equal amount of patient compliance.
